Oral intelligibility

Dr .Stevens in this lecture began by telling the differernce between :phonology which means how sounds work and the pattern of sounds and phonetics which means how we form the sounds. He said that
the most unique about the english languague and the Arabic language they are stressed- time languages. But most of the other languages depend on syllables not stress. He mentioned many aspects of oral intelligibility such as pronunciation-intonation-stress-rhythm-non verbal communication.
In fact I appreciate his way of teaching and his waywhen he presented his lecture
He has clear instructions .He knows what he wants to do .

Using music to teach the four skills ( Janet Louise)

It is a good to refresh my students at the begining of my lesson . To get them out of being bored.
It is an effective way to teach the four skills reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Also, we can use it to teach grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation.
Songs are a rich and compelling source of natural input for the language classroom.
Music can be used to teach listening practice or as a general warm up activity for adiscussion topic.
Music is also closley tied to culture and the variety of musical geners in the English -speaking world expresses the wide cultural diversity.

Integrated skills ( storymaking & storytelling ) Debbie Darrel

As Dr. Debbie said there are many benefits of using storytelling in the classroom.
1- Storytelling is the original form of teaching .live oral storytelling will never go out of fashion.
Simple narrative will always be the cornerstone of teaching.
2- storytelling lets learners have an experience with the powerful language in context rather than in bites and pieces.
3- Storytelling lets learners have an experience with the powerful language of personal communication not the usual teacher talk.
In fact I appreciate her way of teaching this technique.
She began by giving us a story which is called the three dolls. She narrated the story. She divided us into groups she give us the story with missing words and asked each group to complet it.
Then she asked each group to read part of the story.
Then she askedeach group to create another story like the first one.
By useing this technique she covered the 4 skills listening, reading, writing and speaking.
We can apply this technique in our classes . This tecnique encourages the students to speak by telling simple stories which happened to them or to any other person . we can ask students to retell the story by using " though , although, inspite of ,..............

American culture

To speak about the American culture we should first speak about the history of America.
The United states is a nation of immigrants.9,3% of the current us population was born in another country.13% of Americans normally speak a language other than English at home .40% of all new students at NYU do not speak English as their first language.
The US receives more immigrants in one year than other countries combined
In fact Dr. Chris Wolfe is a self confident man . He is a lawyer. He knows the American laws and the history of it well. He gave us much information about the history of America .
Thanks for him

Reflection and action( Baerbel schumacher)

Of course we have goals and hopes for this program.
First, For myself as ateacher:
1-To be more qualified and ready to exert much efforts.
2-To use new modern techniques and methods of teaching.
3- To involve my students in the learning rather than teaching them through the traditional way.
4- To be more effective inside the class.
5- To manage my class.
6-To exchange culture.
7- The teacher should reach to the students first to teach them .
Second, For my students:
1-To make them interact in the class .
2-To teach them how to be co-operative and work in teams.
3-To guide them how to search for the information they need by themselves by using modern technology.
4- to use some fun .
5-To teach them how to use what they learn.
